| Jay-Z total of 774K (298K more sold this week)
Raekwon total of 89K (21K more sold this week)
Drake sold 74K first week (WTF?)
Kid Cudi sold 104k first week (pretty decent joint)
KRS/Buckshot sold 8,400 first week (Damn!, thought more would have sold)
I know Jay is popular, but his shit is selling like hot cakes while Rae is still under 100k. Damn! Some of the realest albums never attain the sales they should. It almost seems like Jay is buying his own album or something. What is this shit about Drake selling 74K??! I guess those chicks have been buying his shit. Plus, the album was practically free almost a year ago. The Cudi album was pretty good. So, I can see his numbers around that figure. The KRS/Buck album really surprised the hell out of me. I know Duckdown albums in the past year have only been able to sell around 10K at least, but this album should have sold around 20k.
Also, I guess MOP didn't make the chart? Damn!

| People should not be surprised by Jay's sales in the least. Jay has the mainstream fan on lock, and he's got old school fans still buying his stuff cause they've been fans since day 1. In essence, Jay has cornered the market. | |

Agree on that, but with the current state of the economy and the progression of the digital age, his sales still took me by surprise. I figured he would go plat eventually, but I didn't think so soon. Also, Rae should have done more than though. Hopefully, worldwide sales can help him some.

| MOP didn't make the chart due to poor distribution. You couldn't find their CD anywhere and even then it was not hyped or advertised much.
You failed to mention Lil Boosie sold 49K and Trick Daddy scanned 13K.
You also failed to mention that the New Boyz - Skinny Jeans scanned 10K - beating out Survival Skills too.
I see what you say about being suprised by Jay - but it goes to show that he is still on top of the game - bigger than anyone who has dropped in the last 2 years or so. |

| I was hoping that KRS/Buck sold more but bootlegging and closed mindedness killed them. MOP just said fuck it and dropped a album but they still would not have sold many more even with promotion. They never had big sales even in the gloden era. Rae is doing what I thought anyway which is good for someone at his point in the game.
Jay and Em looks to be the only ones that will go plat this year but Lil Wayne is on deck. |

I figured that as much. MOP started promo for the album only a month and a half earlier.

Yeah. Forgot to add those in there. Never figured New Boyz would outsell Survival Skills.

I agree in terms of album sales, but I hate when some people solely base stature in hip hop just on how many number 1 albums and sales that an artist can attain. That's not to say that Jay doesn't have any dope joints because I liked a couple of his albums, but he is bragging like all of his albums are dope shit when the majority of them aren't (The song "Reminder" comes to mind).
*P.S. - That wasn't towards you SRP, but I was just speaking on people in general.

| Man, I was really hoping Rae would have sold me, I was pretty convinced he was going to heavily promote his album like he said he would... its all good though, 100k is a fine number of cd's sold. | |

| Yeah, I think so as well. Did you all know that CL Smooth's American Me album sold 100K back in 2006. That was great considering he hadn't released an joint in 12 years prior to that year. He definitely got paid for that. | |

| Jay is untouchable. He can do anything and people would like it. Even some throw-back OC Word....life shit. | |

Maybe that is true for the masses, but that shit won't fly with me. There is only so much average shit you can put out.

| Jay had bigger second week numbers... though Em had better first week numbers. We'll see - but em is barely creeping towards 1.5 million... |

| Yes, but Em sold More the First week (around 600K) - but less the second week (around 200K)... meaning he had a significant drop off in sales.
Jay on the other hand sold 400K the first week and close to 300K the second week - meaning he did not drop off as drastically so he may be able to sustain longer sales in the long run. |
