ATTN: Audiophiles

I need some advice/help. I'm looking into buying a nice quality pair od around ear headphones. Now he Bose set i'm looking at is $140, but i wanted some opinions/recs on others so i can get the most bang for my buck. Any help would be appreciated

Bose are dope but not worth the price you have to pay for them. Not sure how you feel, but if I'm gonna pay $140 for a pair of headphones, they better have a fucking lifetime guarantee!!

Personally, I think Sony is fine. You can get a nice pair for like 50-70 bucks.

If you want bang for your back, Bose is just about the worst. They actually have a pretty poor rep among audiophiles. So, I'd avoid Bose if I were you, and also Skullcandy.

Any of these will be good in that price range:

Audio Technica ATH M40 (or the M50's for a step up) (Closed design)
Audio-Technica ATH ANC7 (these have active noise cancelling)
Denon AH-D1000 (closed, but don't block as much sound as other closed)
Sennheiser HD-555 (open design)
AKG K 240 (closed)
Sony MDR-V6 (closed)
Sennheiser HD-280 (closed)
Grado SR-80 (or SR-60) (open)

Closed headphones will dampen outside sound to varying degrees. Active noise cancelling will also take care of a lot of outside sound, but requires battery power, and may cause some distortion. Open headphones will give you the most open, natural sound, but they also let in lots of outside sound.

I've used Sony V6 headphones, and they'r good, but I haven't used those ones. Personally, I'd be wary of the emphasis on extra bass, because that suggests they may have altered the sound signature to really pump up the bass, and that can drown out the mids and highs. I prefer a more balanced sound. I want music that is meant to emphasize bass to have bass, but music that isn't meant to have heavy bass to be balanced, and those headphones might not offer that. That's really a taste thing though, and Sony is usually pretty good.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money you can get sennheiser px100s, or hell, even these:

I got them for xmas and they are fantastic......and look at the price tag.

PX100s are a good low cost option. Koss KSC75's also. Neither are full sized headphones, though.

Any Sony studio headphones will do. To those looking at Beats By Dre, consider something else... BBD's sound is slightly panned to the right about 14% and it's kind of annoying if you really pay attention to it.

My friend got a pair of those... I tried them right away, and it was the first thing I noticed.
