Best rookie of 2009?

I only have 1 on my list and that is Fresh Daily "The Gorgeous Killer". I give it about 4 stars. What was some of the most notable new talent in '09?

Fashawn, Skyzoo, Wale all dropped their debuts i think

Skyzoo's been around for a minute I thought. How is that Wale album?

I would say Fashawn. Boy Meets World was one of my favorite releases last year.

Yeah off the top i'll say Fashawn hands down followed by Asher Roth.

On the underground scene yes, but the Salvation is his official debut. Hence he gets my pick. For those who haven't heard that album, I recommend that you do so, it's dope as fuck.

I havent heard much this year. Wale is dope though. He's been out for longer than 2009 though I think.

I personally wouldn't consider Skyzoo a rookie, but The Salvation is officially listed as his debut. for some reason 3 Day High is considered a mixtape.

Probably because it sucked.

All rookie players were bench warmers last season. Marq Spekt would have got it but he released The Invissibul Men album with a rap partner in 2008. But he gits it for best debut album. One new lyricist that grabbed my attention was DopeStyle from the west coast. Dont know how new he is but he was on a slew of songs on the Holocaust / American Poets album Theater Of Pain. Not only does he have crazy word play but he has an crazy flow and strange voice ,

Eh, the Skyzoo album I heard around 2007 wasn't that great IMO. And the Fashawn was decent I suppose...still not something I'd rate too highly. I'll check out the Wale if that's all there is....

That Wale album is dope, I dig it a lot. There were some really crappy songs on there though. Overall, 3.75-4 star album for me. J. Cole killed it on 'Beautiful Bliss', I will mos def check out his album once it's release.

Well this Skyzoo album is much better. It's hard to pinpoint your taste sometimes Pounds, so I don't really know what to rec you.

I wasn't asking for anything specific. Just curious about new artists in 2009. And who I haven't heard.

Avid Record Collector and Soulklap both produced excellent full length albums for Rise and Divine Minds, respectively.

The producers are the stars here, overall. Although the emcees deliver, too.

And if you're gonna call Skyzoo and Wale newcomers, then Saigon is too, I guess.

I didn't think of Rise as a newcomer, but Parker, we spoke of the Rise album many times. I love that album. 4.5 stars and top 10 of '09 IMO...I guess he'd easily be my "rookie" of the year then. Though Avid was the star of the album IMO...probably one of my favorite productions of the year. I wasn't feeling the Soulklap album though.

I wasn't claiming Rise as a newcomer. Just focusing on ARC for this thread.

You weren't feeling the production on The Quan? I'm not too sure about you sometimes.
