Neither. Like pretty much every double album I've heard, if it were condensed to one album it would have been a true classic.

merely disliking/not being a fan of an artist is not hating. Given Steve's love for Pac, i think the assumption has more merit with him, but he didn't say anything negative about Biggie though.

I know on normal circumstances disliking does not eqaul hating. But with cats on this forum and their behind the scene bias against any emcee that receives to much praise. I wouldn't doubt some hate or extreme bias is not at play.

And yes just like Powell low rating on All Eyes On Me is semi hating in my book so is this one.

And Steve yes I do know it is possibile to like 50 betta east coast album than this one.

it's all opinion right here of course but in no way, shape or form is Beneath The Surface anywhere near Life After Death

DMX has never made an album on the level of either real Biggie album. I'm not counting the Puffy made up albums of old verses and freestyles. Tical? You gotta be joking. I will definitely comment on a Tical Vs Life After Death thread any day.

Agreed, LAD is a 5 star album, the above three are not. Tical is the only one that even comes close.

You guys might be right about Beneath The Surface, I haven't listened to it in a long time. I still spin both Tical and that DMX a lot more than LAD though.

Fine. Substitute some Rakim albums. Substitute some Gang Starr albums. Put in some ATCQ albums. Put in some Run DMC albums. Put in some BDK albums. Some Big Pun, some Slick Rick, etc. Get the point? It's easy as fuck to name 50 better.

I don't know what people like about disc 2. Unlistenable...now, disc 1 is certainly 5 stars, better than Ready to Die.

I co-sign pretty much everything Halfy said in this thread. As a double-disc, this is a neither, if it was just 1 disc, it would be Top 50. And I love Ready To Die a hell of a lot more than this.

See, you are operating under the assumption that LAD is 5 stars and that's simply not true to a lot of people. LAD is a 4.5 star album or less to a lot of people, and under those circumstances LAD is on par with those other albums.

Y'all don't have to agree with me, I'm just stating my personal opinion. I feel that all three albums had more skip tracks. DMX is overrated to me, none of his albums are classics IMO. Beneath The Surface is my 4th fav GZA album, and Tical while close to classic, doesn't have as many standouts as LAD. The only track I skip on LAD is Playa Hater, and I could stand to listen to it sometimes.

Whether you think Life After Death is 5 stars isn't the point. I don't even have a problem with the 11 neithers I see right now. However, don't post a half ass list and just say because we neithered LAD here is my list of 50. Beneath The Surface? You gotta be kidding me. I like It's Dark And Hell Is Hot and Tical. However, IMO neither of those CDs are on the level of LAD. Take out the duds on both CDs and tracks like What's Beef,Niggaz Bleed, My Downfall, Kick In The Door, 10 Crack Commandments, I Got A Story To Tell, etc.... smash Tical and It's Dark in its entirety. If you think these songs don't, tell me what songs on Tical or on DMX's debut that are better. Post a real East Top 50 and then we can talk.
