Hey I was surprised by the turnout last night guys...there were about 10 people in there.
Anyway hopefully this isn't a one time thing...
I got some good music recs, added some people on last.fm and rateyourmusic, and just had some good discussion in general.
If more people start using it maybe HH4L will unite!
Think about it.

Last.fm is great... Thanks for the suggestion. It pulled all of my plays from my Itunes and even shows what songs I am playing on my laptop as I listen to songs or CDs.

Though I've been on last.fm for a while I hardly ever go on there. Its nice to see what others are playing at the moment which cuts down on the need to inquire over the interwebs. The compatibility feature is pretty cool as in theory it should help you meet new friends. The match.com of music I suppose.

Well it should compile all the plays you have from music on iTunes or other players. I use iTunes. It should work with Winamp and other things though. Basically it will compile all the plays you have recorded on iTunes and it will put those on your profile, then use that to base recommendations on and give compatibility. Of course every time you use iTunes it will also track those plays.

Yeah, I had it compile my winamp plays. Is there a way to alter it? I should add Windows Media Player since I use that when I listen to CDs. Right now I'm listening to (and loving) random songs.

Hey from now on if you directly rec me an album in the chatbox I will listen to it ASAP. Yes I will probably d/l first but that doesn't mean I won't buy it. I still like to give respect to artists that I think are doing something nice with hip hop. For example I'll be buying the new Vakill off of Amazon tomorrow.
Anyway with that said I'll be checking out some recs I got last night from Myes
June Marx - Body Of God Menace Clan - Da Hood (more of an indirect rec but w/e)
I'll post ratings/comments on those in here sometime in the near future nah meen?
I know my opinion is so important to all of you lol

And as promised....first impressions
June Marx - Body of God (4 stars) - Started off kinda slow but it started to pick up with Hadron Collider, which is essentially a Twin Perils track. Every track that followed had a unique sound and covered a wide range of topics. I found the track Season of Lust pretty funny - June, you'd really turn down a three way with two hot chicks to finish recording a track? C'mon Man! Anyway, this stacks up pretty well with the Twin Perils output and I'm interested in checking out his first release as well as Lone Ninja's solo Burnt Sector. And Slang if you read this you should check out Twin Perils/June Marx if you haven't already. There seems to be a huge Wu-Tang influence on the sound.
Menace Clan - Da Hood (4.25 stars) - I really like the production on this one, all of these tracks bang really hard and feature pretty high quality sound for 95. Da Hood is about well, da hood. 13 tracks full of violence and paranoia but with some extra anti- government/white power themes thrown in. Bushwick Bill appears on two of the tracks and does a pretty nice job. For me the standouts include Aggravated Mayheim, which sounds like Onyx with a west coast flavor, Da Bullet, which is a song from the viewpoint of a bullet, and Kill Whitey, which doesn't really need an explanation but is really catchy and funky imo.
Of course these ratings are based off only one spin so they are subject to change. I like both of these albums though and I recommend listening to them.

Awesome! For June Marx, I like the tracks: Silence The Traitors, and Natural Selection
After listening to Menace Clan, can you see why I said they're underrated? Da Bullet is actually the viewpoint of a bullet, and a gun. One guy is the bullet, the other a gun. I thought that was clever. And I liked What U Sayin, the confrontation between an old-timer and a young buck.

Yeah Menace Clan are definitely underrated. Do they only have one official album?
As for June Marx I agree that those tracks are standouts, I'd throw in Season of Lust and Overthrow the Throne as well.

Ok here are two more reviews...and a couple more are coming after these.
"Your MySpace page looks like it's for a gay French model!"
Bigfoot - Giant Steps (4.25 stars) Whoa, this really surprised me. Got this Australian hip hop rec from lounge. I have no idea about the back story of this guy and this is the first I've ever heard of him, but I'm really impressed by this. It's mostly aggressive hardcore hip hop. Bigfoot definitely seems like he has respect for the classics and the traditional boom bap hip hop sound. It took me a while to get used to his accent, and at first it sounded like he was a bit over the top with his angry vocals, but after 2 or 3 tracks it just started to click with me. I found it constantly entertaining. A lot of the guest rappers were pretty funny on the mic (the above quote is from a guest) and the album had a nice split between darker angrier tracks and more upbeat tracks. After one spin I like this quite a bit. Check it out.
"Gracias and danke, I don't speak a lot of languages"
Stik Figa X D/Will - #HappyHour (4 stars) The beats on this thing are just catchy from top to bottom. Stik Figa sounds really confident on the mic and has a pretty nice flow if you ask me. I'm even more excited for Crown & Coke now, and this is basically a preview. Tweeny One is a nice posse track with a load of guests including One Be Lo. There are a lot of skits and its pretty short, but those are pretty much the only shortcomings. I recommend this and the From The Top EP he released with Oddisee. Be on the look out...
These chatbox recs have been nice so far...keep 'em coming!

And here's two more:
E.C Illa - Natural Born Illa (4.25 - 4.5 stars)
"A Guest" recommended this to me in the chatbox and even though he probably won't see this I feel obligated to stay true to my word so here goes. This album is dope. Extremely consistent, and I think it's right up there with the Illa LP. I would do an introduction to E.C. Illa for those that don't know him but I don't know a lot about him myself. He's a white rapper from Chicago and he's been involved in hip hop for quite some time...and that's about all I can say with confidence about him. It seems like his music didn't get a lot of attention. Anyway, this album has great production if you ask me. It has a good amount of funky beats but it also has some more minimal boom bap type beats on it as well. The guests on this album all give great contributions, especially The Legendary Traxster, Matlock, and Planet Asia. This is probably the best album I've been rec'd in the chatbox yet. Very underrated and highly recommended.
G-Side - Huntsville International (3.75 stars)
This is another rec from gametheory (he also rec'd me the Stik Figa). This isn't my first experience with G-Side, I have The One...Cohesive, which came out this year and I think it is great. This came out in 2009 and is somewhat of a preview to the style they showcase a bit better (in my opinion) on Cohesive. There are some really nice beats that seem to have influences from electronic music. A lot of the tracks have a very chill vibe. The two MCs have different styles and never sound weak on the mic. However, the album (or is it a mixtape?) seems much more intent on being catchy and accessible than Cohesive. As a result there are some weak tracks such as College Chicks and So Gone which seem to imitate the simplistic weak stuff that dominates radio play today. The album is pretty good outside of these tracks but it's really hard to ignore them. I'll continue to look into the rest of G-Side's discog though, I like this group. This is a good release but I'm not feeling it as much as I hoped I would. Still, check out G-Side if you haven't already.
