| I like this topic, so I wanted to do another version with different artists. Try to pick just one song from these old-schoolers, and if you can't then limit it to two as a tie.
Rakim
KRS-One
Big Daddy Kane
MC Lyte
A Tribe Called Quest
De La Soul
Ice T
Naughty By Nature
Brand Nubian
Cypress Hill |

| Rakim- Know The Ledge is top 50 best rap songs period. If Rakim came on that vibe most of time he would be in my top 10.
KRS-One- Love's Gonna Getcha one of the best tales about the decisions we make.
Big Daddy Kane- Most are going to think this is crazy and I know he has way betta songs than this one but Cause I Can Do It Right is my song.
MC Lyte- Cha Cha is the song that made me a Lyte fan.
A Tribe Called Quest- A tie between Award Tour and Check The Rime both are classics!
De La Soul- This is another out there pick but Ring Ring Ring is a fav.
Ice T- You Played Yourself is hands down my pick.
Naughty By Nature- WOW! Ghetto Bastard and Yoke The Joker tie.
Brand Nubian- Slow Down is a masterpiece.
Cypress Hill- How I Could Just Kill A Man |

| Here's my list....
Rakim- Microphone Fiend (Simply one of the best lyrical displays of all time by one of the best MC's of all time. Know The Ledge is a very close second)
KRS-One- My Philosophy (This song is FRESH and TIMELESS, you SUCKAS!!! Knowledge REALLY DOES reign supreme over nearly everybody!)
Big Daddy Kane- Ain't No Half Steppin (Kane was both hardcore and commercial on the same track. Gotta love it!)
MC Lyte- Paper Thin (She murked this track lyrically and proved why she's the female GOAT and somebody that you don't wanna battle, Cha Cha Cha is a close second)
A Tribe Called Quest- Scenario remix (As great as the original version was, the remix was even BETTER! Arguably Phife Dawg best performance ever)
De La Soul- Buddy (Q-Tip, Latifah, and Monie Love guest starred on this track, but it was De La who really made this one a classic, especially Posdanous)
Ice T- New Jack Hustler (Ice T was Pac before Pac, meaning he was the guy that kids really wanted to be like in the mid-80's, and this song explained why)
Naughty By Nature- Uptown Anthem (Just a straight banger. Treach was awesome as usual but even Vinnie was hot on this track! You dealin with a tittie feelin villian...he ripped it!)
Brand Nubian- Slow Down (Play this song at any club in the country and the dance floor will be as full as any of today's jams. This song had great subject matter and was something to groove to, the total package!)
Cypress Hill- Hand On The Pump (This BARELY edges out How I Can Just Kill A Man, simply because the chorus was so catchy. Those two songs alone made Cypress' debut album a classic although the rest of it is hot as well) |

| Rakim - Paid in Full. My alll time favorite Rakim beat.
KRS-One - The Bridge is over. All you gotta do is play the intro of this song and it's over.
Big Daddy Kane - Aint no half steppin. Another sick beat.
MC Lyte - Ruff Neck. Hard, Head Nodder.
A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation. One of the smoothest tracks of all time.
De La Soul - My Buddy. One of their most memorable songs.
Ice T - Cop Killer. Most controversial song.
Naughty By Nature - O.P.P. You down with O.P.P. YEAH you know me.
Brand Nubian - Slow Down. They still play this track in old school sections at clubs.
Cypress Hill - Insane in the membrane. I played this track constantly off my favorite Cypress Hill release Black Sunday. |
