As far as these albums are concerned, I do understand that most are not consensus classics. However, they are all 5 star albums to me. Because these are my favorites doesn't mean I don't respect Me Against The World, Paid In Full, etc. I just couldn't tell you the last time I've listened to them. These 10 albums are in current rotation, and have been for awhile.
Enter The 36 Chambers: Quite easily my favorite album of all time. There's a good chance that playing this non-stop is what prevented me from developing the relationship most heads have with Illmatic. I just couldn't be bothered.
I'll Sleep When You're Dead: The only thing I really find listenable from El-P. I have no reservations assuming longevity here. I still find new shit when I listen. Nothing else is so complex and relatable at once. I certainly see where its not for everyone, though.
Watermelon, Chicken, & Grits: easily my favorite from the south. Uplifting and grimy at the same time, probably the album most reflective of my attitude and experiences. Musically flawless.
The Torture Papers: AOTP is such a hodge podge of talent, and really most of the emcees don't usually do much for me. The sum is definitely greater than its parts, here. Raw underground lyrics repping classic boom bap production with some modern accents.
A Piece Of Strange: Kno is just too good. Probably my favorite producer these days. And, like Nappy Roots, the emcees have a way of hitting home. I actually think Dirty Acres will eventually edge this out, but I've dug this album a bit longer.
Muddy Waters: My GOAT emcees at his goatiest. This is a long album, without a single wasted syllable. Possibly Sermon's finest hour as well. And yes, I'm aware of the levity in that statement.
Labor Days: This album is as good as when I first heard it. Cerebral rap with a holier-than-thou delivery. Just simply entertaining.
The Future Is Now: Non-Phixion was fucking HUNGRY on this shit. And mic skills were abundant. The most balanced of teams, these guys repped every angle.
Blackstar: Absolutely perfect. One of the few "conscious" albums that I also find extremely listenable.10 years later, at that.
Dog River: Moka Only and Def 3 came out of nowhere. On a lark I downloaded this off some random blog. For almost 3 years this has been one of my most listened to albums. Very chill, I would compare the vibe to ATCQ.

Before I start with my favorite emcees, I'm going to reassure that I'm familiar with every single artist mentioned so far. I don't think anyone can hang with these 10 verbal gymnasts. Not all of them have extensive careers. That's not what this is about. The game has evolved. Some of these guys have been around. They were once ahead of their time.
These are straight microphone murderers. Get familiar before you criticize, because I've grown bored of your favorites.

Devil Smokes Dime Bags beats are a lot more boring and...conventional? I don't know how to put it. Nothing really stood out to me and it even made the lyrics sound bad. I only spun it twice because, again, nothing really stuck out to me but I might d/l it again to see if it can keep my attention. Art of Raw was MUCH better IMO.

FAVOURITE ten rappers, emphasis on Favourite. Not really in order, more alphabetical.
blu - I loved what he brought to the game. Was almost a breath of fresh air to use an ol' cliche. Beats wise, every time he hooked up with a producer be it exile, dela, ta raach, aloe blacc, his style always shines through and rips it. Blu(e) "her favorite colo(u)r" is testament to his beat making, producing and lyrical prowess. Its a brilliant concept album. Voice overs with the 50's back drop music mixed with dope ass verses thrown in.
Ed-og - his lyrics read like a storyline everytime, he's everything ice cube, 2pac, dre, snoop couldve wished to have been.. Polished real gangster joints with the same jazz sound that made pete rock an cl so popular. Roxbury 02119 is a skip free joint any day o the year.
The goats - I know nothing about them, and I only have one o their albums. But still, whoever they are "tricks o the shade" is one my top 5 albums guaranteed. The skits.. Lol... I could only imagine what america is like.
Zev love x - pre mf this guy was on another level, I do enjoy doom, but as far as rappers, I see them as two COMPLETELY different persons. A lot of his subject matter resonates true hear in sa.. Especially on black bastards, as well as gas face.
That's it before my berry's juice runs out.

One Be Lo - before i had internet and before i knew one be lo had a solo career , binary star's ''motu'' was on constant rotation either in my stereo or my friends'. man is a lyrical power in the game, few come close imo.
Double K / Thes One - i can never choose between the two. i love puts...
Boots Riley - i like the messages / mottos / scenarios he always fills his lyrics with.. his voice is dope, and with pam's production, coup make up a pretty fukn sweet duo. again very marxist, similar to that of zev and goats, approach to lyrics.

I would admit it's crazy too, lol, but I've actually been thinking about who would make my list of top 10 MCs after Nas and Jay-Z. In no order, I would select Rakim, Scarface, Biggie, Cube, Ghost, Redman, Kool G Rap, and Kane. Oh yeah, I've been listening to hip hop since the tender age of 5 (my lucky number).

Willie D compared to Ray Benzino? C'mon man, I realize that I favor Ray but he is a true pioneer. Ray could easily jump into my Top 10. Definitely has something to do with my location but thats what got me put on to RSO as a youngster. They been doin the damn thing this 85! Not many still standing from that era but Ray Benzino is still making good music for the streets, the first rapper in the game with his crew on his chain. Ray innovated hardcore on the mic, listen to this track for homework. Tony Rhome is also a top 50 all-time emcee for me.

A difference in taste would be liking KRS more than Rakim. there really is no right or wrong answer. People would just agree to disagree. It's another thing to say Benzino has ever been a part of something that rivals Grip It. and people can say Geto Boys are legendary due to Face which is true, but one listen to Gript It, and everyone knows who the star/focal point of that albums is

I do repeal my antitode comment by some years but to say it's common hip-hop knowledge that Willie D is clearly better than Benzino is ridiculous. Geto Boys blow away any group assembled by Ray but that doesn't mean he was trash or he never made good music.
