Everyone who likes this album so far has also jacked off repeatedly to the cover art of "Violent By Design" so I will take it with a grain a salt. I might try and listen to this on rhapsody or lala.com before I decide to buy it.

You still walk around Wal*Mart with the 'Marshall Mathers LP' in your 'portable CD Player' latched onto your belt while you shoplift items in the dressing room....at like 30 yrs. old.
edit: and now, further listening to it, i cant help but to think you "blind-bashed" it...this albums fuckin' dope, and will probably have a place in my top 10 of '09.....

Wow! We have had Wal Mart, Acrid's talent, VBD, MMLP, Gucci Mane, and Kool John's affinity for plus size women referenced on this thread, but no one has actually explained why this album is good. Steve has asked twice why do you think the album is good, and he has received 0 responses. I have not listened to the album, but there are a few opinions on music i respect. So far i'm getting conflicting reports.

I really like the production. Not just the beats, but the way it is constructed. I think it flows very well. Less than half the songs on the album even hit the 3 minute mark, so it's not all fleshed out in the traditional song structure, which gives it immediacy and movement in my opinion. It also only clocks in at 45 minutes, which seems like a good length. Mos Def's style is nice on the album too, it really meshes well with the production. It's kind of low-key, and right there in the music.

That doesn't answer anything. I want to know what is different on this record compared to his last two. Why should I spend my money on this album? I'm seriously on the fence because I've been burned by Mos Def twice.

i co-sign Jason....Def's rap style isnt the same as BOBS but i like it on here, and i dont mind some of the songs where he sings at parts either
i can listen to the album without skipping a song really....its definitely an abstract album
My favorite songs are Auditorium, Priority, Pretty Danger, Pistola, Wahid, Life in Marvelous Times, History, Casa Bey, and Twilite SPeedball (definitely a song to blaze to)

co-sign jason...while it doesnt grasp you with anything that thumps..the vintage/sometimes middle-eastern atmosphere of this record is what sells it...beats are DOOM/Stones Throw-ish, while different for MOS, it works

See how well everything works when people don't acknowledge the medicated madman. Good take on the album Jason. The only song thats not working for me right now is "Quiet Dog". Not feeling that one. Otherwise The Ecstatic is fresh and top notch.

Lots of these people loving this album have such suspect music tastes...
They either like every underground rap album released or have such a random taste in music you never know why they like something.
This is the thing too, it is easy for someone to praise or criticize something they didn't pay for...

Really? While i wouldnt call my tastes random, id definitely say i have a very wide array of my choice in music...i wouldnt cosign this,it makes it seem like a person like me has erratic preferences and cant distinguish different genres in hip-hop...well my point of view anyways.....
maybe you werent referencing me, but well...you didnt drop names, and i dont really lean on one brand of label/artist here...

Also, some other Hip-Hop albums I've liked this year:
D-Sisive - Let the Children Die Myka 9 - 1969 Diamond District - In the Ruff Tanya Morgan - Brooklynati Blame One - Days Chasing Days Finale - A Pipe Dream and a Promise k-os - Yes! P.O.S. - Never Better

I have not see Killer of Sheep - but read up on it right now and it sounds interesting so I will likely try to find it at the library at some point.
Good to see a list of stuff you like. I have heard two of those and have the K-Os on my to listen list...

some of Mos' raps sound like there right out of DOOM's rhymebook, hes a huge doom fan too..
the best part about this is you could tell Mos was so smoked out during the process of making this album, it definitely works for him

Dude, your the biggest douche bag on this forum. I don't think anybody would hold a funeral if you got deleted from here. What part of I dont give a fuck anymore about who you or your puppet friend think I am did you not understand. I could care less who you think I am. 98% of the people on this forum are here to talk hip hop. Your here to start shit with everybody. I've contributed more to this forum than you have and I'm more respected on this forum than you are because I actually have respect for other people on this forum, so you can call me names and accuse me of being the Pope if you want too. If you think this somehow confirms anything because I think your a douche bag, think again. 48 out of the 50 people on this forum think your a douche bag so that proves nothing. The only reason I'm choosing to acknowledge you now after paying every stupid thing you say no mind up to this point is because I see the way you talk to people and treat people on this forum and you had it coming from alot of us. Your not liked and this aint your forum so do me a favor and go fuck yourself Steve. Is that clear enough for you?? Consider this the first and last response you will ever get from me.

Yeah Mos has that rare ability to switch up styles at any give point. I'm still loving the Auditorium beat which was a instrumental he got off Madlibs Beat Konducta series. The whole sound of this album does flow well. It should finish in my top 10 for 09. I'm really looking foward to the Random Axe release next.
