| I respect the pioneers of the genre but the music don't compare to what came out in the years to come. Classic ole skool ish for sure, but not top 50 from the east coast for me. | |

| Well, you've already got 5 neither votes(including powell). That being said, i have no problem with this being nominated. I would have preferred it to be towards the end of the nominess though. | |

| While this isn't among my Top 50 from the East, it was certainly worthy of a nomination IMO. |

I own 100s of east coast albums... in fact my cool keith collection alone is in the 20s...fool... and this album is probably just as long as illmatic considering GMF songs were longer than nas songs on that album. |

I like this album a great deal, and I consider it a classic. The Message is one of my favorite songs of all time, but the East is the deepest region, and this doesn't rank up there with albums like Illmatic. As dope as Melle Mel was, he ain't on Nas' level when both are at their best. |

KJ, you need to quit with the lyricist comparisons. someone being a better lyricist doesn't always equate to that artists album being better than that of an inferior lyricist. I mean Nas is a better lyricist than KRS, but would you rank Stillmatic over Criminal Minded? Nas is much better than Chuck with the lyrics. Would you rank the Lost Tapes over It Takes A Nation? | |

I wasn't just talking about lyricism. I was just talking about classic albums. Illmatic was Nas' best album, and The Message was Melle Mel's best album. Both were great, but the vast majority of hip-hop fans would rank Illmatic over this album. Even the miniscule blip on the radar screen that this forum is, says the same according to the scoreboards for both albums. Basically what I'm saying is that SRP sounds foolish for calling people out for neithering this album, when he neithered Illmatic and Criminal Minded. Two albums widely considered superior to The Message. |

| Its foolish for you east coast fan boys to not show love and respect for a true pioneer and a legendary album. let's see, you go around with your own dick up your ass, in heat, when people don't show enough love for Run DMC, yet you don't stand up for TRUE pioneers like Flash and the Furious Five? Maybe you aren't an east coast fan boy like I thought you were, then you would at least know and respect your roots. |

You stupid fuck. I've said MANY times that The Message is one of my all time favorite songs (could be my fav on a good day) so obviously I got love for Flash and the Furious Five. I also said above that this is a hip-hop classic, I just don't feel that this is among the Top 50 East Coast albums of all time, and neither do most people even outside of this forum. You're just too far into the forest to see past the trees. The old school is well represented on my GOAT list, please believe that. |
