Seriously, these could be interesting discussions. To be fair, somebody else throw out Kane's most unfuckwittable track. I'll see if I can destroy it. I'm stepping out right now, so take your time.

BDK is the better rapper. But:

Could be true

this "battle" should not even be discussed and wouldn't normally but joseph has been pissed off since I said his top 10 was a top 300 and now he lives to "prove" his point to daddy....
he needs a warm bottle and a nap
but seriously though R.A. would get eaten by Kane...spit back on the plate...eaten again...dropped on the floor...stepped on, and then left for dead....this is a perfect description of Kane vs. R.A. IMO...it's not even fuckin close....case completely closed for me...no matter what my wayward idiotic boy says...hey joseph go to bed now!

For obvious reasons, RA vs. Kool G Rap would be more appropriate. RA is no joke, and i'm not sure there are too many verse that can fuck with RA's verse on Renaissance or Uncommon Valor. I'll still take BDK and KGR over RA though

R.A. is a dope MC, but he's not fuckin with Kane at all. Kane's discography is pretty spotty, but he's still capable of opening up a lyrical can of whoop-ass. He'd send R.A. running with his tail between his legs.
I don't know what the fuck Parker Kid Joseph Jabroni Lewis from Revenge of the Nerds is trying to prove with these matchups, but he's fighting a losing battle trying to put his favs against these superior legends.

Terry and Shaun said that BDK is better also. But either way, I still think this is on some "let's prove that my boys are better than the guys from the 80's" bullshit. Just give it up already. Those guys are legends for a reason. Slaine and R.A. would kill to have careers like Rakim and BDK have had.

and for me personally it's not just about careers....R.A. The Rugged Man (what a stupid fuckin name) is in no way, shape or form fuckin with Bid Daddy Kane lyrically...flow....content...etc
and there is no way that half way above average Slaine is fuckin with Rakim...now that shit is just completely laughable...that's some Chris Rock, Cedric The Entertainer shit right there
pickin out 2 or 3 of your favorite verses from a 3rd rate emcee does not add up to a hall of fame emcee...it does not add up to a top 10 emcee.....R.A. couldn't even fuck with someone like Big L IMO...Lord Finesse would crush him too....since we need some underground emcees...those 2 D.I.T.C. vets would bust his shit IMO...let's add O.C. to the mix as well...shit Big Pun too....R.A. is not that good IMO.....he's a decent lyricist but I know of many that would bust a hole in his lips IMO!

being considered a great rapper is more about spitting some hot bars and verses. RA and Slaine both have a lot of talent no doubt, but i would prefer to listen to Rakim and BDK most of the time. I mean, Rakim and BDK have big discographies, Slaine and RA cant even get albums out, that in itself speaks volumes. i love Rugged Man but its obvious he is extremely influenced by Kool G Rap, because of that he will never be able to surpass KGR, at least at this point in his career. As for Slaine vs. Rakim, Slaine may be good, but you are trying to compare him to a god. if not for Rakim, Slaine's style may have never even been able to exist. Rakim, for his time, was a genius and influenced almost every other rapper after either directly or indirectly. I also prefer Rakim's voice to Slaine's, and VOICE IMO is a HUGE part of rapping. If i prefer hearing someones voice more they automatically get some favorable opinions toward them from me.
Again, no doubt in Slaine and RA's talent, but they dont have enough material to compete with the other two.

RA loses because he's a one trick pony for the most part. Whereas Kane is one of the most well rounded lyricists in hip hop period.
I do get why someone would feel Slaine and RA is betta than these greats though. Lyrical rappers are more complex now and days with their rhyme cadence and wordplay. But its only because these cats laid the blueprint for them to build off of.

I can I can see calling him a one trick pony. But, rhyming every word for 10 straight bars, and still dropping a coherent verse...that's quite a trick. I don't hear anyone else doing it. He does it regularly.
I never thought i'd see this turn into an honest discussion.

A major part of my point is that, just because Ra is a god in hip hop, and he did originate a lot of technique, his approach doesn't hold up against modern emcees. Listen to them tracks after the Slaine tracks. He couldn't flow his way out of a paper bag in today's climate.
If that shit doeasn't sound choppy and simplistic compared to today's emcees you're in denial and this conversation is a waste of time.

I disagree entirely. I still spin Kane to this day, whereas I can take or leave RA. Kane is just far more appealing and has dropped more classic songs and lines.
RA is a dope MC, one of the best post-2000 in fact. But his tracks aren't as dope as Ain't No Half Steppin, Raw, Smooth Operator, Warm It Up Kane, etc...
Bottom line, Kane is one of the best that ever did it. RA ain't on that level yet and it remains to be seen if he ever will be. I doubt it though.

Post-2000? Rugged Man's been in game since '92. Admittedly Kane has more classics, and I'm not saying he's not great, but I think RA is a more skilled MC. RA is like ODB mixed with KGR.
You're right RA won't reach BDKs level of recognition. I'm writing on my phone and its hard so I'll stop here lol

I haven't heard a lot of RA's material, but like the second poster mentioned his verse on Uncommon Valor definitely affected me more than anything I've heard from BDK. He was also pretty nice on the track he did on Celph's album, and I've also heard some other tracks featuring him off of compilations, and I've heard Die Rugged Man Die, and he's nice on a lot of those tracks. That said, I hold BDK's first two albums in higher regard than DRMD. But in terms of lyrics I might pick R.A. too, and it's not because he's white or because I'm ignorant and have no respect for the genre.
