This song is a failed remake of Live At The BBQ. I personally find it annoying

I disagree with that. Those two songs have nothing in common other than Nas appearing on them.
This doesn't make my Top 50 but I do like it quite a bit. Nas and Chubb Rock were dope on it.

Neither. Serch was corny to me even when I was a little kid.

Seriously KJ.
The first song was called Live at the BBQ
This song is called BACK to the GRILL and the hook goes "Back to the Grill Again"
and Serch was the dude behind both - this was DIRECTLY intended to be a sequel and if you ask Serch he would tell you the same.

LOL, indeed. I always viewed it as a sequel or an extension of Live @ The BBQ.

This is NOT a sequel that is a FACT. You guys ALWAYS gang up on Kool John even when he is CLEARLY right. He is STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN LIKE SIX O CLOCK, you guys are more like 6:02.

You're wrong Pedro. Live at the BBQ was by Main Source, not Serch.
While Serch is the man who discovered Nas and got him his first deal, this song was a sequel of Kick Em In The Grill by 3rd Bass, NOT Live At The BBQ.
And Steve coming to my defense?? Wow talk about irony. Nevertheless, thanks Steve.

Steve was mocking you, first of all.
Second of all, you ever notice that big ass logo on the back of Illmatic? Ever wonder what Jay-Z meant when he said "I know who I paid, "god", Serch Lite Publishing"? Yeah, Serch is responsible for both songs, idiot.
You are correct about this being a sequel to "Kick Em In The Grill", though, Serch clearly refers to the other song on the last bar of his verse, and Nas does likewise.
Regardless, Nas sucks on this song if that's who were voting for/against. Tone did his thing, though...wonder if he ever writes anymore...or makes beats for that matter.

While you are correct in that the emcees all say "kick em in the grill" on the song, the format and concept was meant to be a direct follow up to Live at the BBQ. And Serch was behind both songs because he got Nas on the main source song, it wasn't his song, but he was behind orchestrating that feature.
This is from a Nas interview:
Hailing from the Queensbridge Projects in New York City, Nas infamously got his start rhyming with emceeing neighbors Main Source, with the jaw-dropping verse that ravaged rewind buttons on cassette players nationwide: “Street’s disciple/My rhymes are trifle/I shoot slugs from my brain just like a rifle…. When I lift and rhyme/Rappin’ sniper, speaking real words/My thoughts react like Steven Spielberg’s/Poetry attacks, paragraphs punch hard/My brain is insane/I’m out to lunch, god/Science is dropped/My raps are toxic/My voice pops, locks and excels like a rocket.”
The hip-hop world was Nas’s oyster after spitting the preceding rhyme, and the young MC settled a bidding war by signing with Columbia through the consulting assistance of 3rd Bass rapper MC Serch. Their association resulted in “Halftime,” Nas’s first solo track from the “Zebrahead” soundtrack of 1992. “Back to the Grill Again,” Serch’s sequel to the Main Source classic, also kept Nas in the mix while his debut album was in its planning stages.

Point being, that a sequel to Kick Em In the Grill - would have been called "Kick Em In The Grill Again"

I agreed about Serch being responsible for both songs, he was the guy that Nas on back in the day. He also was close to Large Professor.
I understand your point about "Back To The Grill", but to me, if two artists reference a previous track by the artist whose album the song is on, I would immediately assume that it's a sequel to THAT track, and not another loosely related song. So while your point may have merit, you have to understand where KJ is coming from, because it was my assumption as well. I don't know that one dude writing an interview is the authority on the song's intention, but I'm not going to argue about it either as I don't know any better myself.

By that logic, a sequel to "Live At The BBQ" would be called "Live At The BBQ Again".

It could go either way. I can see someone thinking either way. But this is not a clear single to any of those songs, most people consider it Serch's attempt to capture and play off the success of Live at the BBQ, it was the bigger of the two songs.
The structure to me is more like Live too... posse cut - where as kick just feature Chubb on it. I think the best thing to say is it obviously drew elements from both songs. KJ wants to say the only similarities is Nas on both songs and that is far from the truth.

You defended it with what, that wack ass hatin thread you posted (which BTW I didn't even see until AFTER I posted on this one). If Nas is so overrated then why did you buy all of his albums? Dude is a GOAT for a reason.
I've never heard anyone say that he sucks on that song. But then again, you hate on most NYC rappers pre-2000. Shit like that (and this) are why nobody respects your rap taste.

All I know is that most of the shit you listen to sucks. That coupled with your lack of respect for most NYC rappers pre-2000 are the reason why people clown your taste.
