I can understand all that Kev. I think they're pretty close too. I give a slight edge to Rakim though, so he wins for me.

Quik is a legend no doubt about it....I got introduced to him from some of the heads on here and I picked up his debut, Safe And Sound, Balance And Options and his greatest hits and have been impressed with each one of them....


I thank the forum for the formal introduction to his dopeness....I think his production work is second to none...lyrically I think he's average but has his own style which is still dope as well.....but this thread is about the GOAT emcee not producer and the fucked up thing for Quik is that right here he got matched up with Rakim...which IMO on a GOAT emcee's thread he should always lose that battle....that battle is not even close IN MY OPINION....so this is not about hate for me personally, this is about talent/skills on that mic device and Quik as dope as he is can NOT fuck with Rakim Allah on the mic....IN MY OPINION!

Dope shit Powell. I can respect that. I mean I already know Quik is not seen in the same light lyrically as Rakim. But not because he can't hang with Ra but because Rakim is just seen as a lyricist due to he fits the "image" of a lyricists. Quik i no joke on the mic and I will say he's an above average-good lyricists. To me Rakim is a above average-good lyricists. Its all in personal taste though.

Rakim is only above average-good to you, yet K-Rino is great in your opinion? SMH. I know that statment is gonna bring out Pedro and the rest of the Rino stans but I just don't see it.

Rakim is universally known as one of the greatest lyricists of all time, I just don't think he's your cup of tea. DJ Quik is great and I'll admit I slept on him for quite some time but Rakim is a more complete MC IMO. I downloaded Quik's entire discog and I like it a lot, but I feel that Rakim has more rewind-button lyrical moments and more classic albums and songs under his belt. There's a reason why he's called the God MC. Quik is dope in his own right, but he's simply not on Rakim Allah's level. So while I respect your opinion Kev, I disagree with it.

I listened to Quik Is The Name for the first time last night and I was impressed. I am spinning Safe & Sound now. As Powell said, I have to give you all credit because if you all hadn't have been co-signing his catalog I would have left it alone. I'll finish Safe & Sound and Rhythmalism will be next.
