Thoughts? Was it your purpose to select all the worst albums of the year so far? You left off Jada Kiss, Finale, Joe Budden, Dead Prez, U-God, Trae, Tech N9ne, Slim Thug, Saigon, Project Pat, MF DOOM, Mobb Deep, The Jacka, DJ Quik & Kurrupt, Cyne and B-Real. You have even worse taste than Jason |

| 2009 so far has been about 3 stars overall, it has had some decent releases but let's not over-do it's worth, it's been average to slightly below average...they say the underground will save hip-hop...I say then we are in serious trouble...lol
but overall '09 is about 3 stars IMO, meaning it hasn't been completely horrible but it can still use major improvement

powell, how many post 2000 all time 5 star classics have you heard. i maybe have 20 at the most, and a good number of them are from 2000-2002. right now compared to any year between 1985-1998 this year sucks, but compared the the crap in the past 6 years so far i would say we are doing alright. i mean thats what this topic is about, not how this year is compared to all other, but post 2000 |

| I mean if you count all the 1-4 star albums people on this forum have claimed to be 5 stars just because they are old then yeah... 2009 will never compare...not until 15 years from now when all these people are old and will declaring everything released in 2009 was 5 star classic. |

I doubt that happens SRP..lol 2009 has no 5 star classics as it stands right now, maybe that will change as the year goes on but right now the shit is worth 3 stars at the most... I think what you need to do is go back and re-visit some 1988 or 1989 or 1990 or 1991 material and tell me if you can recognize all the actual 5 star material...Now I know you have bad tastes in music so this may be revealed when you are listening but anybody with two ears can easily hear the difference between now and then....THE GOLDEN AGES BABY BUBBA, there is no comparison! lol

| Powell I know as well as you do there is no point in comparing post 2000 era to the golden eras of the 90' and 80's. Maybe a few of your artist let you down so far this year but I have been hearing some good music, I have been extra selective of what I purchased this year and honestly I only bought one semi average album and that was Project Pat. The rest have been above average for me. |

I said I've heard some decent stuff man, off my list most of it is average to above so these artists are trying, but I still say the year overall IMO is 3 stars which is about average man

This coming from someone with Brother Ali at the top of their list. He'd fall under your flower power umbrella too, Kev... lol How much weight should I put behind your sentiments when you have Asher Roth as one of your top albums while J Dilla is noticeably absent? Every last album on my list is easily better than that Asher Roth album. Anyway, Read it again: "Strictly proper studio releases that I've heard. If it isn't on the list, I haven't heard it, so stay tuned for updates as I come across more material." That means I haven't heard many. I simply haven't been checking for '09 releases. Rap music is getting more and more boring and I simply haven't heard too many albums that have moved me. If I update my list right now, only two albums would go up (Red & Meth and Finale) because that's all I've checked for that managed to leave an impression... How many albums on my list have you actually heard? You've heard at least 2 of them because they made their way onto your list as well... lol Again, I guess there's some "flower power" going on with your list as well... Oh, and define "flower power" because I doubt Eminem, Mr. Lif, DJ Quik, or Kurupt would agree with you. I haven't updated mine in a month, yours was updated yesterday and it still... You know what...nevermind.

You know what...nevermind. Bro Ali is not flower power to me because he raps with some aggression and soul. As far as rap getting boring maybe step out of your comfort zone and get some this gansta shit in your system. I know you are "above" that but all that soft sweet flower power music will make you bored. I respect your knowledge and taste in music but we just have different taste and views. I like some flower power rap just like I know you like some hardcore rap we just perefer one over the other more. I was just busting your balls, no hard feelings. I truly did find the list boring just like i'm sure mine did not move you like that. I have heard 6 albums off you list and have no passion to hear the others because I already have heard some the work of the other 5. |

i like the energy on that album. asher does not have skill imo, but there are multiple reasons for listening to music. a lot of the albums mentioned in this thread are great for listening to on your head phones at home or traveling when you can pay close attention to what your listening to. but when im going out with my friends i want something you can just play with lots of energy, most the albums listed here would put you to sleep rather then get your in a good mood. |
