| In your opinion, which artists and/or groups have stellar discographies but no 5 star classics? | |

Yeah they do not have a 5 star album to me. They have two personal classics in my book but I would not throw 5 stars out there too quick. Of course its debatable.

KRS and Quest have several classics. Em's first two albums are classics, Talib's debut is a classic, and the Black Star album is a classic. Also, while I'm not the biggest UGK fan in the world, I'd say Ridin Dirty is a classic.

But I luv plenty of albums that I know are not perfect but they are classics to me. I try to stay away from the 5 star rating because I am never that confident to put that out there for too many albums.

That's kind of an interesting way of looking at it. I think sometimes I see it the other way. I elevate the almost perfect albums to a 5 star rating if I feel it deserves it overall. Plus certain albums just have an impact or impression that they make that elevates their rating. And then sometimes albums have dope songs all the way through and are still not classics. Idk, it's all POV shit.

Idk, it's all POV shit. Yeah it depends. Really I think rating albums should only be used to give someone an idea of the quality of the record. Because once you start rating them number wise str8 off personal connection things can get twisted. Really just enjoy the music. And the replay value and personal vibe is more valuable and a better measureable sign than a number rating. As far as the UGK thing. Of course its debatable and I would not debate or argue w/ anyone for rating Ridin Dirty or Super Tight 5 stars. Hell I probably have said they were 5 stars myself before. They both rank very high with me. Thats why I just prefer the word classic over 5 stars.

For example, Ghetto D is a classic hip hop album but that is by no means a 5 star album to me.

Yeah I'd have to agree with you on Luda. His first two albums are near classics but have a couple skip tracks so they fall a little short of 5 stars. And Kev is still on crack....ATCQ and KRS/BDP have somewhere between 6 and 9 classics when you add the two acts up.

Just tellin it like it is. Tribe's first three albums are widely considered classics, and Criminal Minded, BAMN, and Boom Bap are widely considered classics by KRS so that's 6 right there. Ghetto Music, Edutainment, and his self titled album can be argued as classics too. Personally they're classics to me. I bet you have a TON of Scarface/Geto Boys albums rated as classics so GTFOH with that hypocritical BS attitude.

And while GB & Face do have plenty of classics in my book they do not have "tons" of 5 star albums. Face- 4 classics and I can see 2 of them being 5 stars. Geto Boys- 4 classics but only 1 maybe 2 five star albums. But once again thats even debatable. 5 stars have no weigh on classic status for me.
