Jay Rock - Follow Me Home Jay-rock-follow-me-home1

Another album I heard through Spotify. I guess I'll share some first impressions after one play through. Jay Rock's debut is pretty solid. It has a nice mix of hard street life tracks and more mainstream sounding tracks. He has some pretty popular guests on this album including Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Tech N9ne. This album is definitely easy to get into. I remember a discussion on here about how Jay Rock sounds like The Game, and that isn't too far off, I'd say his voice sounds like a mix of The Game and Rick Ross. The production is top notch and there are a lot of catchy beats. However, the album loses steam for me somewhat towards the end, as it gets into a bunch of mainstream oriented tracks. Also, while Jay Rock isn't a bad rapper, I don't think he is very lyrical or unique sounding. Still, this is an album that can appeal to a pretty big audience, and it has a good amount of variety. I'll give it 3.75 stars for the moment, I will listen to it again some time in the near future to see if it will grow on me.
