| Top 50. Ghost and GZA are the only two from the Wu that would make my 50 as solo artists | |

LOL...I get it but his delivery is so fucking boring to me without stellar production. IMO he only has one classic album and Pro Tools and Grandmasters are the only other ones I can play all the way through. Kinda like Willie D not being repped by himself because Geto Boys count for him enough is the same way I see Gza. I know he is a pure lyricists and word for word he is a beast so I have no prb with him making the list just not on my vote. |

| Really? I view Legend of the Liquid Swords as his only weak spot. I still give that around 3.5/5 or so. Liquid Swords is obviously classic, and Beneath the Surface, Grandmasters, Pro Tools are all 4+ stars. |

Just for the record, I voted Ice T, Slick Rick, and Lyte top 50, and the other two top 100

Slick Rick had jail get him, and most people on this forum are too young to remember him, but I voted him top 50. Snoop, Ice T and Busta Rhymes don't come close to matching GZA's consistency, and GZA never sold out hip-hop like they did. Heavy D has no classics, he's jsut overall steady, whereas GZA has classics as a group and solo....and Lyte is a chick, no femcee is even worth listening to IMO, and it seems like most feel that way. |

| Gza never sold out? That's debatable. Both Gza AND KP have had albums with beats that sounded like top 40 stuff even if their lyrics weren't. Gza had a Scott Storch beat for christ's sake. |

Kev, were you holding up a mirror when you typed that? You're telling folks that their votes look crazy...maybe it ain't everyone else? Maybe if GZA were more gangsta or "real" (whatever that means) would he get more love around here...not saying you specifically, but folks seem to cream themselves over that sort of thing around here. Anyway, I voted neither. Maybe the entire group gets in, but I can only think of one member that deserves to be top 100 (RZA) on the solo tip and he's not even the best emcee in the group...he'd be more of an impact pick because he single handedly changed the way hip hop sounded back in '93. The rest owe part of their status to him... So, it's a "no" for me...

Not in my book, no. And he's my favorite member of the Wu. Sure, his musical output is top notch, but folks make these discussions about other things for some reasons. So, when you factor in the "other things" (*cough* outside bullshit that doesn't matter whatsoever when speaking on the MUSIC *cough*), he doesn't make it, unfortunately...

I like Ice-T more. Quite a bit more in fact. Dude has 3 bona fide classics that still get steady spins years later. With Short, I bump "Life Is..." still, but not many others on a consistent basis. |

Yeah I know it works both ways but Gza not being a "gangsta" rapper has nothing to do with it. Snoop, Lyte, Ice-t, Slick Rick, and Short all had more impact on rap than Gza. It's just fuckin crazy to me how he's top 50. |

Steve sometimes I wonder about how you read into things, there are numerous ways a person could be top 100 and YES impact is a factor so is skill. |

| Impact is debatable, and in every other measure GZA gets all of them, consistency, lyrical skill, "realness" (for u buddy), everything...you may be bored because he's not gangsta i suppose. then again you think willie d and GZA are comparable...LMAO! |

| GZA's impact is hard to gauge, but he deserves some credit for the Wu phenomenon. Make no mistake about it. RZA is the one who deserves most of the credit, but at the time their debut came out, there were only 3 or 4 of the 9 members to really stand out. It could be argued that GZA was the center piece for that album. | |

Thanks for making sense Terry! I agree with that statement and that is why I think the Wu Tang being top 50 embodies his contributions more than solo wise. That is the only reason I compared him to Willie D. Willie D was the leader to say of the Geto Boys at first and on their 1st album Grip It he was the stand out and the backbone like Gza was for 36 Chambers. Like Gza got outshined by Meth, Ghost, and Rae same happened to Willie D so that hurts his solo standing as top 100. |

To each there own. As for the topic, I like GZA. I said I can see why somebody else would find his flow boring, because I can objectively see why. Kev had it nailed right. He needs the right production, which he has gotten enough of for me to spin his material quite a bit - hence the top 100 vote. |

| Kev, I personally don't see GZA being outshined by the other members with the exception of Meth on 8 Diagrams. GZA never had his crown taken from him like Face took the crown from Willie D. I've been listening to a lot of Willie D over the weekend, and i just don't see "greatness" as a solo artist. Maybe i just missed the boat on that one. | |
