that's very debatable. This dropped at a time with very little competition and it is a very obscure classic. Willie D probably has more fans than Just Ice.

See the above is the reason your's, Powell's, Wayne's and Highsmith's opinions on Willie D are wiped off the record books by me. There's nothing objective or remotely fairly looked at when you guys respond on him are select other artist outside that east box you guys live in. I respect you guys hip hop knowledge on other things but on this its really no point in saying anything. In you guys eyes no one outside the east region can compare to the royalty from there.
Now SRP on the other hand I know he is looking at it from a very informed point of view. So debating with him about who Willie D is better than is fun and cool because he actually digs a lot of Willie D.

It matters to the point if you claim Just Ice dropped a classic and nobody heard it and Willie D has dropped classics that nobody heard then both emcees are on the same footing.

Oh Kev, shut up man...your sore about that damn Wil-lay Damn D again....I have always thought dude was wick wick WACK.....to me he has little to no lyrical skills whatsoever....I'm all for learning new stuff like the way you introduced me to Field Mob whom I also thought was wack until I really listened to their stuff...but Wil-lay is going to always be stuck in the wack zone for me personally man!

Wil-lay hasn't dropped any classics yet IMO because he is WACK, and they are hardly on the same damn footing IMO....as far you knowing what competition was available in 1986....how in the fuck would you know that Pedro?? where you even born yet?? how old where you in 1986 man 3 or 4 years old??? so how can you speak as a "rap pro" about what competition Just-Ice had when he released this album??

I can speak from a better perspective on all this having heard Willie D's best solo albums and Just Ice's solos. Controversy dropped in 1989. 3 years don't make that much of a difference. I know you ain't heard any willie d solos so this whole convo is pointless.

I don't hate Willie D as much as Powell does. I think he sounds good when rhymin with the Geto Boys, he just doesn't do it for me as a solo artist.
Bushwick Bill on the other hand is dope on the solo tip, at least what I've heard from him.

Sorry Kev I can't listen to anyone yell through 16 songs on the album...I don't care if he was from the East, West, South, Midwest or North, I wouldn't want to listen to that. However, I respect Willie D as a pioneer for Southern rap. I would rather listen to him with Face and Bill though. I never said he was whack. All I said was I would rather hear Big Mike with the Geto Boys than him. I also wouldn't want to hear him by himself for an entire CD.

I loved the GB album with Big Mike, and i prefer Big Mike as a solo artist. However, you can't have the Geto Boys without Willie D. It's like eating Cheese pizza. Sure it's good, but you know something is missing that would put it over the top.

I'm sure you listen to plenty of Onyx, Busta Rhymes, and some Mystikal. So I don't believe you, you need more people. Anyway i'm sure the fact he has no flow to his rhyme style and he's str8 up southern throws a lot of listeners off. Esecially when you are more into the Big Daddy's and Kool G's if you will. And I know you did not say he was whack I was just saying that you guys are more east coasters than anything. And some of you have either admitted to not liking him, only wanting to hear him on grp albums, or never heard any of his solo's. So I was saying you guys debate on Willie D is almost pointless.

I've never heard a Willie D album, but if he screams the way Fat Man Scoop does, yea I can see why people wouldn't be able to stand an entire cd that way.

breaking down Willie D to a dude who "screams" on the mic is a vast oversimplification.
But also, trying to big up Just Ice over Willie is equally crazy to me since Just Ice is very much similar in style.

LOL, I really don't have an opinion here. Everyone knows i'm not the biggest fan of Willie's solo material, but i really don't get the hype with Just-Ice either. I enjoyed both albums of his i heard, but the dude wasn't spectacular by any means. I'm sure he was impressive in the 80's just like the Model T Ford was impressive in the early 1900's. I guess you had to be there.

Seriously Kev, you honestly think he's better than Chuck D???? I don't see it. Chuck is on the same level as Scarface IMO (some would say higher) so if Willie's not as good as Face, he's not as good as Chuck. Again, I don't dislike Willie D but Chuck D is simply on a different level.
I'm not overrating Chuck lyrically, you're overrating Willie. I know Chuck isn't the line for line lyricist that Rakim or Nas is, but he's the EF Hutton of hip-hop, when he talks, people listen. He's the king of political hip-hop. No disrespect to Willie D, but he's not comparable to the man who made Nation Of Millions a GOAT album.

I wish I could say the samething about Wil-lay so some people on here can stop talking about the bullshit of having a "more open mind" towards him.....what the fuck that has to do with anything I'm not really sure...either your feeling said emcee or your not plain and simple and in Wil-lay's case dude is straight up wack to me....my mind is completely "open" and I've heard what he had to say and I fell asleep

I am really talking from a preference pov for the most part. And I do feel Willie D is a betta overall writer than Chuck D. I mean Chuck is a one trick pony like Paris but they are great one trick ponys. And when it comes to grabbing people and not leting go Willie D can't touch Chuck D. Chuck D has the betta delivery and of course legacy imo. But to me a true rapper can excel lyrically in almost any subject arena and this is where Willie D wins for me. Willie D says some true life real talk shit. Let's look at some of Willie D song titles:
I'm Not A Gentlemen 5th Ward Welfare Bitches My Alibi Little People With Big Burdens Trenchcoats & Gangster Hats Clean Up Man Put The Gun Away U Still A bunny Yo P My D
All very different topics.

even with his "tunnel vision" he is better. Better flow, better delivery, better lyrics, IMO better voice, he excels at political rap, thats who he is, i wouldnt want him to start rapping about love and other topics
