The production on this album is AMAZING!!! Yeezy definitely knows how to select beats. They alone bump up the rating of this album for me.
My favorite joints are So Appalled (Which is easily a Top 10 track of 2010 for me), Hell Of A Life, Power, So Gorgeous, and All Of The Lights
Lyrically, this is easily Yeezy's best effort since Late Registration. Production wise, it can be argued that this is his best album. I can easily see why someone would consider this a classic and I wouldn't argue with them, but it falls slightly short for me.
If you're a Kanye fan (even a casual one) then this album is a must buy. If you're not, then don't bother because this won't turn you into one. This album is for open minded listeners only.
After 3 spins, my rating is 4.5 stars. If it weren't for Monster and Lost In This World, I'd be inclined to call this a classic. Easily one of the best albums of 2010.

And I was JUST about to post a review for this one, lol. My expectations for this album have been met and the anticipation was well deserve. I LOVE this album, and as KJ mentioned, the production is amazing. I'm borderline 5 stars with this one, honestly.

I can respect that opinion. I think lyrically his first 2 are better but production wise it's arguably his best effort. I can't stand Monster because of the cartoonish lyrics, but even that song has a dope beat.

I hear you. I like Monster, no question about it, but I respect your opinion though. Devil In A Blue Dress is tight as hell, but Rick Ross' verse added nothing at the end. It would've been better with just Kanye.

I agree with that as well. I can't stand Rick Ross but the beat and Kanye's verses on Devil In A Blue Dress make that song credible.

I actually thought Ross' verse was pretty legit. Which surprised me because I am not a fan of his at all.

Uh, no it's not.
And this cd is MASSIVELY overproduced, it has the feel of a cd that has wayyyy too many chefs in the kitchen all over it. Kanye's lyrics and flow aren't even easy to point out as being weak because the cd is JUST SO TERRIBLY OVER PRODUCED.
But the stans will love it, and that's what matters.

havent heard this album yet, but i love Rae's verse on Gorgeous....the song leaks ive heard from the album were good, but i dont understand how this has a score of 100 on Metacritic and critics are slobbing on this album like its the second coming of christ. I havent heard it in full yet but from the leaked songs it seems like it will be a pretty good, not spectacular album

This album is fire!!!!!!!!! I can see classic or semi classic status for it with time. Perfect sound for his album title sales pitch. Welcome back Ye, I knew you could come with it again.
Its no where near as good lyrically as his 1st two. On those he blended lyricism and style very well with his beat talents. But now he is leaning more toward his beat talents and song structure talent than mic talents which is cool. He is blending the shit perfectly. This album is top 5 of the year for me as of now.
4.5 easily as of now.

This sounds like a coked out rap opera....and I love it. Definitely one of the best this year.
Runaway is fucking epic. I also love Devil in a New Dress (including Rick Ross), So Appalled, Power and Dark Fantasy.
This is an album that I can listen to all the way through easily.

Are you serious? How about just asking how does the album sound or something. That was a suspect question in my opinion.
Kanye did most of it but Mike Dean is credited for a lot of co-production. There are some outside producers also.

That is a legit question. The answer could very well explain the sound of the album better than a bunch of relative adjectives.

Not really because its Kanye not Scarface. He is a radio ready artist so why even ask when its a given he has "radio" trks. Plus what the hell really qualifies for a radio trk when talking about artist like Ye, TI, Jay, etc etc. Most of their songs are mainstream friendly.

You could always Google that information.
And Kev is right, Kanye is and always has been a commercial artist so of course he's gonna have radio tracks in abundance.

well a radio track is something that just sounds like a clear radio attempt and is generally going to get overplayed and annoying
a mainstream friendly track can really just be any track that has wider appeal, but isnt necessarily made for the radio or as a single or going to get a ton of radio play
like, i would consider Jay Electronica's "Exhibit C" mainstream "friendly" but its by no means a radio track

Alright, i've spun this album 3 times now, and i could see 4.25 stars but i will say 4 stars for now. The drawback to the album is that Kanye is far too ambitious on some tracks, and it feels like he's trying too hard to make this shit sound "epic". It just doesn't always work or it wears thin on some tracks.
Also, i find it funny that some of the same people praising this album were the ones who were so hard on 808's. this album is a blatant extension of 808's. The production, lyricism, and themes are all similar minus the auto tune.

Album of the year so far. Sounding like Kanye's best album early on. It's eclectic, and the production is busy, but somehow it all comes together and doesn't seem to over-reach for the most part. Kanye is hit or miss lyrically, as always, but the other elements make it less glaring. I can see this standing as a classic in the future.

This album smashes the shit out of 808's. Kanye is an awful singer and autotuned throughout that album. He's at least an above average rapper though.
The reason I rate this album so highly is because I can listen to it just about all the way through.

This album smashes the shit out of 808's. Kanye is an awful singer and autotuned throughout that album. He's at least an above average rapper though.
The reason I rate this album so highly is because I can listen to it just about all the way through.
At least above average? Is that a joke?
On your facebook, KJ, you said you skip THREE TRACKS. How is this anything above a 3.5 album if you skip THREE TRACKS.

Ok, Slang is correct. There can be a difference between radio tracks and mainstream tracks, but usually they are one in the same. As a matter of fact this Kanye album does have a perfect example of there being a difference. Runaway is without a doubt a mainstream track, but it's a track Kanye constructed to be listened to in full. with it running 9 minutes it's certainly not radio friendly in that aspect. A lot of mainstream tracks have been edited down(whether it be run time and/or content) to be considered radio friendly. For instance, i've heard Left Eye's rap removed from Waterfalls on certain radio stations. I've heard the spoken word portions removed from End of The Road and On Bended Knee.
