OFFICIAL 2012 ALBUM LISTS AND DISCUSSION

I added Reks & 1982 and I am waiting on my Killer Mike from amazon. I will rate things once I get some more spins in. For now, my list will be in a best to least fav order.

Updated my list. Nice diverse list Highsmith. Somebody stepping their rap game up in 2012!!!

I was wondering. Cause while its not a bad album I knew 4.5 was very high and suspect...lol. I'm spinning Day Of The Storm now and may be changing my opinion on it.

I think I probably shot a bit high because I didn't really like Day of the Storm, and I thought Deeper Elevation was much more dope. I still listen to "My Laughs" & the sorcerer conclusion (can't even recall the song's title smh) on the reg though.

Lol...just fuckin around. Me and OC do not get along well for full lengths. I peeped the samples and it sounded aiight I guess but nothing I had to hear.

I opened Spotify for the first time in a long while the other day, spun (in order of dopeness):

God Save The King

All 4 are real dope, and will be copped once I get a new disc player in my car

I thought that my 2011 list was diverse also, but it's all good.....

Trophies is on deck, but I haven't really been down with anything AP's done yet. The Copywrite is great. C4C is excellent, and I like the Reks... his best since Grey Hairs I think.

My buddy just got the new 1982 and Reks, so I'll be hearing those sometime this week. Il check out that Billy Woods, too

I got the Mayday at #7. I need to revisit it again, maybe tonight. I don't remember it very well. That's the problem with owning so much music.

I'm spinning this De La Presents: Plug 1 & Plug 2... First Serve.

It's a pretty funky concept album reminds me of eMC or Prince of Thieves. Superdope beats throughout.

Uhhh... YO! The fucking beats on this De La are next level. Hear this album.

The only 2012 album I copped was El=P's Cancer 4 Cure.

you are actually crazy if you think Life is Good is better than RAP Music

I have a good feeling I'll be liking it better. This is the best thing Nas has done in a long time. Easily.

while I agree with this, there is something missing with this album. There is nothing that is flat out wack but its just solid, no surprises, but sort of just keeps playing rather than keeping my attention, ya feel me?

I don't like when he goes over the dramatic strings/piano too serious. That's what killed Streets Disciple for me. He does it with a little less cheese on this, but it's still an idea he ought to just drop.

The tracks that earn it on this album are classic Nas, already. I haven't felt that at all since God's Son, Lost Tapes if you count it.



The hook on the title track is doodie, too.

Just as a side note, I consider mixtapes to be albums nowadays as long as they are not collections of songs from other albums. EPs count too. The "album" lines have really been blurred...

Ok, so I'm gonna try and update this list often this year. I think its actually my first attempt at a best of the year list. I'm going to time stamp all my posts and then quote my own posts as I change the list so I can see all the changes I make and how my opinions change over time. I decided to do this because shortly after my first post this morning, I listened to Planet Asia - Black Belt Theater and immediately moved it to number one. Same shit happened with Cats and Dogs last year. Anyway...

You guys are kind of stannin' on that Nas... no way that album is objectively AOTY. I mean, it's all good. I'm just sayin'... I know what's going on around here...

There is no such thing as an objective album of the year.

I guess not, but calling it AOTY before it even dropped is the antithesis of objectivity.
