DJ Quik

easily top 50. Quik is in my top 20-30.

Top 50 for me.

Only one is a classic to me, but Quik kills with it consistency. None of his albums fall below a 4 IMO. Plus, 2nd II None is also a classic to me, and his work with AMG & Hi-C is dope. I gotta spin that Penthouse Players Clique album more though.

I'm surprised you think he only has one classic(Quik is The Name?). I personally think he has 3 classics, and a case could be made for a 4th.

Top 20. Under-rated as both an mc and producer, and one of the architects of the west coast sound. A true pioneer. Quik is the name.

Yes, Quik Is The Name is the one I was referring to. 2nd II None is also a personal classic.

There has always been a track or two on most of his albums I just haven't felt was a classic along with the rest. There's a couple the hit the 4.5 star range IMO. My ratings have changed though. Been listening to Quik a good amount since summer hit. Quik and summer just go hand in hand.

Your rankings are fairly close to mine. I think Safe + Sound and Rhythm-Al-Ism are 5 stars too. You need to spin Under Tha Influence more. That was a great bounce back record after Balance and Options(although it's not as bad as people say).

Powell...that's too bad. Quik is one of the best to do it.

I didn't like "Balance and Options" as much at first, but I have warmed up to it and like it more now. "Trauma" also took a couple spins, which I like, but I'm not feelin' some of them guests. I mean, dude put Chingy on there...lol. Overall, I dig "Under Tha Influence". Just needs more spins.

I could definitely see it being a classic, but it falls just short(4.5 stars).

As a producer. Quik is my number one. Honestly, I prefer Quik's beats over Dre's (shocking, I know).

He's a great rapper as well.

Top 50 for me. Powell has no business criticizing anyone's hip-hop knowledge if he is not up on DJ Quik.

It's actually the 100 greastest, so...I'd still put Quik top 20.

if I don't completely know enough about an artist then I'm not going to vote for him/her...plain and simple and I'm admitting I don't know enough about Quik to place a vote and of course SRP had to come with the smart alec shit so I had to let him know, that's he's been basically faking the funk on about 95% of these artists....he just doesn't know and it shows most of the time

That's admirable Powell, but this is DJ Quik we're talking about here! Why are you in the dark when it comes to him? I could understand if it was an insignificant artist, but this is one of the best from the west. You need get some more Quik material ASAP.

Well, if you think Quik is The Name is 3.5 stars, Quik may not be up your alley. Try Rhythm-Al-Ism. It has a different vibe than his debut.

When was the last time you spun that record, Powell? I think you'd like that one the best of all his work. If it's been a long time since you played it, I'd suggest playing it again and giving it another chance.

I'll vote Quik into the Top 100. He's not a personal favorite of mine, but his accomplishments in the rap game can't be denied. I have liked some of his songs, and he is a good producer. For those reasons I'll give him a Top 100 nod.

On a side note: Say what you will about Powell, but at least he's honest enough to admit that he doesn't know about Quik, unlike some people in here that vote "neither" on people that they don't know shit about. He simply stated that he didn't know enough about him. So in that situation, not voting is better than voting neither. Clearly that makes sense.

We know KJ, but we're giving him shit.

Quik is top 50 in my book. He's an absolute genius.
