Thoughts????
I've only listened to some of the tracks so far so I don't have a definite opinion on the album yet but I have to say that I'm not that impressed. There are some good tracks but nothing really stood out that much so far. I'll have to listen to it a couple more times to see if my initial sentiments change...

This sort of feels like that R. Kelly Jay Z album to me... from the little I've heard... a lot of hype, but not a lot of dopeness in the actual music. Not even sure if I am buying this when it drops.

I listened to this twice today and while it's starting to grow on me, this is clearly what I didn't expect. Pedro hit the nail on the head, this is sounding more like a Jay Z/R Kelly album than an album I would expect from 2 of my current favorite MCs.

Frank Ocean is a part of the Golf Wang
And as for Watch The Throne I just listened to it and I did not like it. Kanye is one of my favorite producers and Jay-Z is decent but not great to these ears but this album doesn't cut the mustard. It's like having too many cooks in the kitchen. The idea wouldn't end well. I never had high expectations anyway. I'm not going to purchase it.

Just listened to it, and I don't think it's bad. It takes a while to really get going, but once you get to New Day it really picks up. There are some boring tracks like both tracks with Frank Ocean, and a couple of weak tracks like Welcome to the Jungle (why is he still collaborating with Swizz Beatz??), but the good tracks are pretty good. The production sounds great throughout, and if you have some decent headphones you should definitely listen to the album with them. Although it's a collaboration between Kanye and Jay-Z this is basically a Kanye project. Everything is over the top and most of the tracks sound more pop than hip hop. The best tracks to me are the most hip hop sounding (New Day, Who Gon Stop Me, Murder to Excellence), but I also like some of the pop tracks (Lift Off, Why I Love You). I probably won't like this as much when I get back to college in a month or so and I hear tracks from this at every party I go to, but for now, I feel good about this. I'd put it around 3.75-4 stars.

If you're expecting an album full of Diamonds, Never Let Me Down, Monster, etc I can understand being disappointed. I actually liked the album quite a bit though. I don't think the samples or even the singles do the entire album justice. Although, i do like H.A.M. and Otis.

Just finished. It wasn't terrible but wasn't great either. 3 stars for now. I can't even say I'm disappointed because I thought it would be something like Best of Both Worlds...looks good on paper but doesn't quite come out like they planned. I would much rather listen to a Jay album that was totally produced by Ye...that should be the next project.

That won't happen. Kanye needs to be in the spotlight whenever he drops something. No way would he stay off of the majority of the tracks.

Yeah, maybe the Ye of 2000 would be down for that, but 2011 Kanye probably wouldn't like playing the background so much.

Lol I'm pretty surprised that only myself and T like this so far... I mean there are some boring tracks on here but I wasn't offended by anything. You don't like New Day? Murder to Excellence? Who Gon Stop Me? I've only listened to this twice but I prefer it to BP3... that was probably the most boring release by Jay... well, Kingdom Come might be a little less interesting... can't remember the last time I listened to a track off of that album to be honest.

Murder To Excellence and Who Gon Stop Me are cool, New Day is aight. I'm not saying that there aren't any good tracks here but overall it's wack. The worst release by Jay is easily BP2.
I'm sure Wayne, Powell, and probably Kev will like this if they haven't heard it already, because they're diehard Jigga stans.

Half & Terry, I don't think the whole thing is whack....I just feel that for a Jay Z & Kanye project this could have been alot better. Can we get some rap guest appearances? There are lazy rhymes and boring tracks all over this IMO. Both Frank Ocean tracks & the Beyonce track are wack IMO, Welcome To The Jungle & That's My Bitch have decent lyrics but the overall songs aren't good and H.A.M. is medicore. That's 6 tracks out of 16 if you have the deluxe version. A 3.5 to 3.75 rating is all I can really give this after 3 spins.

Most of Jay's verses and about half of Ye's are dope to me, but I'm not feeling most of the production or hooks. The only songs I'm really feeling are Otis (mainly because the beat is bonkers imo) and the one where they talk about they're future kids (I don't remember the title). I think Kingdom Come, BP3 and MBDTF are all better than this. I feel like there was just too much combined ego for this to be great.

Man, this album is the only album I can think of in recent memory that actually gets worse the more i listen to it. After about 4 spins, I'm sick of this shit. It actually makes me a little angry that I forced myself to listen to it 3 extra times to see if I was too harsh after the first spin. I was actually not harsh enough. My new rating is 2.5 stars. And that is only because there were a few dope verses and a few dope beats mixed into this fucking 10 year old's dirty room of an album. The only song that I thoroughly enjoyed was The Joy...actually I'll even say that was a great track. Illest Motherfucker Alive was a distant 2nd favorite. I thought that most of the beats sounded like some "new shit" Kanye was trying that he never actually finished or that just really didn't fit him and Jay as rappers. And Swizz just needs to stop doing hooks forever. Made In America is a little insulting to black heroes with how wack it was, IMO.
In conclusion, if you haven't heard this yet, just DL the songs people said were good. It's a fucking train wreck...and not the kind that are fun to watch...more like the kind that pisses you off because you have to clean it up.

Not true, he's still a Top 10 or so rapper of all time to me. I've just been disappointed with 3 out of his last 4 releases. He used to be the most consistent solo artist in hip-hop, but that hasn't been true post-Blueprint.

I don't think he was that consistent... his career is actually pretty similar to Nas except unlike Nas he had twin peaks (RD, Blueprint)... in my opinion, of course.

When I first heard H.A.M I was like hopefully this is just a promo single and not something that will end up being on the album. However, H.A.M. set up perfectly how this album turns out to be, IMO. After spoiling us with tracks like Never Let Me Down, Diamonds (Remix) and So Appalled, we end up having to settle for songs like Made In America, Lift Off and Welcome To The Jungle. They played this extremely safe and that is clearly what doesn't work for me. It's a damn shame when a G.O.O.D. Friday track from 2010 ends up being the best song on here. I still give this a 3.5 to 3.75 but with this production lineup and Jay Z & Kanye, this could have been much, much better.......

I feel that Nas has been pretty consistent as well. His critics will say that the only true classic that he has is Illmatic. I feel that he has more, but even if that is the only consensus classic the majority of his albums are 4 stars or better, and his only true dud was Nastradamus.
I feel that everything Jay has released from RD to Blueprint was dope. Then the inconsistency began...
Blueprint 2 (dud) The Black Album (dope) Kingdom Come (dud) American Gangster (dope) Blueprint 3 (dud) Watch The Throne (dud)
As of right now, Jay is still in my Top 10 but if his next joint is a dud then he'll drop down a few notches. Which is still elite company, but just sayin.
