| Not my favorite southern group, but definitely worthy of a top 100 spot. A few of their records stay in steady rotation for me. |

| Another classic southern group that I would put in comparison to 3-6 Mafia... I have 3-6 Mafia in my top 200 of all-time and Eightball and MJG would fit quite nicely in the same area
I actually have them below 3-6 Mafia in terms of whom I like and play more but they had just as much influence on the game as 3-6 IMO...
I think 3-6 had better production and overall better material than Ball and MJG, but I think Ball and MJG were the better lyricists between the two groups
I have over a hundred groups/duos and emcees above these guys which is why they are top 200 of all-time for me, but they are still respected as southern pioneers and have released more than their share of quality material

| Powell doesn't know shit about the south... he should just abstain from voting when it comes to southern groups - look at his lame ranks for two of the pioneers and best groups from the south. He probably has some wack ass old east coast shit ahead of them so it is clear he is clueless.
His opinion on southern music is irrelevant. |

| I'm with you on this one Pounds
SRP, is a cool dude but he is BY FAR the most full of shit ass dude on this whole board...
he really knows very little about hip-hop in general and that's why he gave himself that sarcastic ass name SOUTHERN RAP PRO...my dude you maybe a PRO at eating tacos or tying your own shoelaces but at this rap/hip-hop game overall your CLUELESS JOE....
now your mad because I put two southern hip-hop groups who I've given much respect too(read my posts on both groups) in my top 200 of all-time and this is coming from a SOUTHERN RAP PRO who put KRS-One in his top 1000 of all-time....
SRP get the fuck outta here man...your full of shit, clueless and a fruitcake all at the same time and not many on this forum respects your crazy ass, devilish opinions on hip-hop..
now if you give me some advice on a new ipod purchase I may listen to you but on this hip-hop thang man give it a rest lil dude....LMAO!

| To say Ball & G are top 200 is wild! They are lyricists with dope azz production especially when they were on Suave. And when you put Lost and No More Glory in the equation top 50 is a must. |

| Hey thanks for that show of respect SRP
Bambaataa is one of the major pioneers with this beautiful genre called hip-hop..he's one of the main reasons why alot of your Tex-ass brothers and sisters even have a damn job in this thang called hip-hop, so I'll take that as a sign your showing respect due...
because you and I both know your knowledge on hip-hop is extremely limited compared to mine...THIS IS A FACT and no need to be debated about...so thanks for the BAM shout man

I suppose. But this forum is very diverse compared to most others I've seen. You'd be lucky to see a variety of people praising 3 different coasts as opposed to all 4. I mean, I post at a Midwest forum...almost ALL midwest hip-hop talk. Nobody likes to even touch on southern hip-hop, and most feel it's inferior. I post at an all (for the most part) west coast hip-hop forum. Again, almost all southern haters. And a lot of east coast haters. At least here you got folks that like everything, and folks who pump certain coasts the most, whether it'd be midwest, south, east, or west. Overall, I'd say it's very diverse. But you can't blame folks for liking the golden age greats either. Many of them transcend coastal bias IMO. |

I don't fault anyone for listening to what they like, I really don't give a fuck, which is why I'm wondering why I'm even typing this much. But I feel you RompedOut... just shake the hate off. I "bash" southern artists? Like who? Of course there is trash from all coasts, including the south. If I listen to some shit and it was wack, I'll say it. You are a part-time pop-bopper though. I stand by that. Me and powell, least diverse? Man, I gotta take a swig of that haterade you got spilling over there. Hypocrisy is a helluva drug. |

| Alright Pounds. The first group that comes to mind is Pete Rock and CL Smooth. Now, i know they are one of your favorites, but they never really stood out among the crowded east coast at the time. They haven't really had the impact that Eightball & MJG have had. They don't have the consistent output of quality that Eightball & MJG have. No disrespect to Powell and KJ, but i think they over inflate their overall value because they are east coast heads. They tend to think that any group from New York during the golden era has some sort of universal appeal, and they don't. I can say with almost certainty that hardly no one from the rest of the world was jonsing for another Pete Rock and CL Smooth album. They were just as regional as Eightball & MJG. Pete Rock is a great producer, but outside of T.R.O.Y., what did they really contribute to hip hop as a duo?

| "on the regular" ...Of course you did. Listening to Ween.
I have a problem, and I'm stating it. If I met a dude in real life wearing a polo shirt and khaki shorts that listened to jazz and Ween and Unkown Prophets were one of his favorite rap groups and he started saying stuff like "homey" (and misspelling it, I might add) and "real talk" and all this other shit he hasn't said in the year I've known him, I'd call him out on it. And some of my black friends would make a big deal about him being a poser and asking him how he really feels about hip hop culture. How's that for "real talk". |

Jada and Finesse would MURK them in 8 bars! Stylistically, 8Ball and MJG have more personality in their pinky than those rappers combined. And you sleeping on 8Ball and MJG as lyricists - I bet you don't own any of their CDs or solo projects... |

Pete Rock is a great producer, but outside of T.R.O.Y., what did they really contribute to hip hop as a duo?
Haven't we already had this discussion? I would have voted them top 100 same as Ball & G. Why? Personal preference. That's how I vote on all of these. I have never stated anything more than their debut full length being "my favorite" hip-hop album of all time. I see what you're saying. But I also consider Ball & G to have 2 classics as well. So I don't know what your point is besides the fact I like PR&CLS more. |

- Powell doesn't know shit about the south... he should just abstain from voting when it comes to southern groups - look at his lame ranks for two of the pioneers and best groups from the south. He probably has some wack ass old east coast shit ahead of them so it is clear he is clueless.
His opinion on southern music is irrelevant. Says the guy that voted against Jadakiss, Lord Finesse, and Black Moon, all of which are better than 8 Ball & MJG.
That said, I voted them Top 100. They aren't among my favs from the South, but I have enjoyed some of their stuff. 8Ball and MJG would murder all those emcees with their flows and style - those are some boring ass rappers KJ - you know that - get with the real son. Fuck Outta Here with that bullshit man. 8 Ball & MJG can't fuck with ANY of those guys lyrically. They aren't even among the top 5 lyricists from the South. Let alone the game in general.
Jada and Finesse would MURK them in 8 bars! Stylistically, 8Ball and MJG have more personality in their pinky than those rappers combined. And you sleeping on 8Ball and MJG as lyricists - I bet you don't own any of their CDs or solo projects... I think they are so underratd as lyricists. Listen to Eightball's feature on Murda Muzik. He more than held his own against Prodigy.

- I love how you're bringing race into this. I've heard Big Jess say "homey" and "real talk" plenty of times on record, as well as MANY other white rappers. Don't involve me with your hangups of what you consider to be slang for different nationalities. "On the regular"? Who doesn't say that? "Haterade"? It's been around for years! I don't own a polo shirt either, and jazz has never been my favorite genre. God you are a fucking idiot. |
